The debut recording by Equus, Dakshin khun, is about meetings. The meetings of these seemingly disparate musics to create something new and unique, as well as the convergence of cultures in this great multi-cultural nation. The title is comprised of words in two languages, another meeting. Dakshin is an ancient Sanskrit wording meaning south, representing the South Indian drumming of percussionist Tunji Beier, and also that this meeting takes place in the Southern land, Australia. Khun is Mongolian word, meaning man or people, as we are southern men now regardless of where we came from.
